Henry's first lesson may top out as one of my top five heart-breaking mama moments. It started out great! Henry was thrilled to go to lessons and went with an instructor to the ice no problem. They started out sitting in a circle listening to one of several instructors. No problem yet . . . they were sitting. THEN, it was time to get up. Henry, of course, doesn't know how to do this yet. So someone came over to help him. Then they left him. So he fell. After sitting for a minute or so, another instructor came over to help him back up. He worked with him for a minute or so and gave Henry pointers on keeping his arms out for balance, etc. (meanwhile all the other kids but one are slowly but surely shuffling across the rink). Henry falls again. This time his little bottom lip starts trembling. The instructor came over gain. Henry starts whimpering and says he wants his mama. UGH!!! It took everything in me not to run out there and rescue my little boy! For the next ten minutes, the instructor worked with Henry (and another little boy) trying to them to at least stand on the ice and take a step or two (and do so without crying!!). By the end of the ten minutes Henry was able to do it!! It'll be interesting to see what happens next week . . . it may be difficult to get him out the door to lessons! (Although, surprisingly, he talks fondly about lessons . . . so we'll see!!)
